The painting was drawn by Lee Gong`lin, who was a high`ranking government official of the Sung Dynasty· He was good at drawing scenery and figures and at the same time paid particular attention to the drawing of horses· The subject matter of the painting was based on Du Fu's poem known as Beauties on an Outing-, depicting three beauties' visit to Chang An County along a river in the spring·
